SRINAGAR: The court of Special Judge Anti-Corruption Srinagar presided by Yash Paul Bourney convicted one Mohammad Sidiq Raina, the then Senior Assistant, Zonal Education Office Kangan, vide judgment dated 31-10-2017, under Section 5(2) of Prevention of Corruption Act and sentenced him to undergo rigorous imprisonment for two years and also with a fine of Rs. 10,000.
The court further awarded six months rigorous imprisonment for offence punishable under Sec. 161 RPC and in default of payment of fine, the convict shall further undergo simple imprisonment of three months. Both sentences shall run concurrently.
The accused Mohammad Sidiq Raina was caught red handed on 8-7-2009 while demanding and accepting an amount of Rs. 1,000 as illegal gratification from one Mohammad Shafi Rather, complainant for preparing of Service Book and Vigilance Oragnisation, Kashmir registered an FIR No. 22/2009 with Police Station Vigilance Oragnisation, Kashmir
