JAMMU: The Baisakhi Milan organized by the Senior Citizens Service Support Club at Chowadi was a grand celebration that brought together individuals from various walks of life to commemorate the spring festival in a vibrant and culturally rich manner.
The event took place at the premises of the Senior Citizens Service Support Club in Chowadi, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere for all attendees.
The venue was transformed into a colourful fairground, resonating with the joyous spirit of Baisakhi.
The event saw the participation of retired government officials, private sector professionals, industrialists, and members of the senior citizens club from different parts of Jammu City.
This diverse mix of attendees added to the richness of the event, fostering connections and camaraderie among individuals from various backgrounds.
Various forms of entertainment were organized, including dance, music, drama, and other activities, catering to the interests of the senior citizens present.
Melodious songs, traditional dances, and engaging drama performances kept the audience entertained throughout the event, adding to the festive spirit of Baisakhi.
Dr. Kasturia Lal, the Former Principal of GMC Jammu and Chairman of the Club, emphasized the importance of Baisakhi, both agriculturally and culturally. He also highlighted the club’s initiative to address the neglect of the Dogri language in the region’s educational institutions, showcasing a commitment to preserving linguistic and cultural heritage.
Ashok Gupta, former Drug Controller J&K and President of the Club welcomed all the participants. Maj Gen SK Sharma, General Secretary of the Club informed that Basakhi, known as Basoa in Dogri, is the first day of the Dogri Calendar which was initiated about 5,000 years ago.
Programme started with a delightful speech on Importance of Basakhi by Ashok Gupta, former Bank Manager. He also rattled out several funny jokes which giggled all. S.K Jain, Vice President of the club talked on the naturopathy and gave valuable points to increase longevity and remaining healthy during the advancing years of life. Anju Bansal and her team members Raj Kumari and Sambyalji of Vichar Kranti Manch, entertained everyone. N.K Sharma connected all the senior citizens with the melodious song of their times.
Dr. Shafika Bano, Yesh Paul Sharma, Abhinandan Jain, and Dr. Vijay Sharma captured the event. Those who attended included Kailash Langer, Patron of the Club, NC Prabhakar, Raj Kumar, Malhotra, Raman Gandotra, Anil Gupta and Subhash Dutta.
Dr. Navneet Kour, the Founder Chairperson of NGO SUPPORT & Gender Equality, emphasized the role of festivals in fostering a sense of security, belongingness, and cultural pride among senior citizens.
The presence of young performers, such as Trishisva Proch from Magic Stars Dance Studio, added a refreshing dynamic to the event, bridging the generation gap and showcasing talent from the youth.
Choreographer Chandan Mondal’s innovative approach engaged senior citizens in Bhangra dancing, creating an inclusive and enjoyable experience for all.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Vijay Sharma, highlighting the contributions of various individuals and expressing gratitude for the overwhelming participation.
Delicious Baisakhi refreshments were served, providing a delightful end to the celebration.
