KULGAM: Three terrorists have been killed in an encounter with security forces in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district after a forty-hour gunfight that began on Monday night and concluded on Thursday morning, the Indian Army said.
One terrorist was killed in a gunfight with security forces on Wednesday in Kulgam district, while two other ultras were killed a day earlier. During the searches of houses near the encounter site in the Redwani area of the district, a fresh exchange of fire took place with a terrorist hiding there.
Two ultras, including wanted terrorist of Lashkar-e-Toiba Basit Dar, were killed in the encounter with security forces on Tuesday, reported news agency PTI.
Informing about the encounter, the Indian Army took to X and wrote, “A Joint Operation, that commenced on the intervening night of 06-07 May in general area Redwani Payeen, Kulgam, has been concluded after a relentless vigil of approximately 40 hours. 03xTerrorists have been eliminated along with recovery of war-like stores, inflicting yet another hit on the terror ecosystem.”
“The Chinar Corps remains committed to maintaining peace and tranquility in Kashmir,” the post added.

According to media reports, one of the eliminated terrorists identified as Basit Dar, was involved in more than 18 cases, including martrying policeman and innocent civilians and planning of attacks on minorities. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) reportedly announced a cash reward of Rs 10 lakh on Basit Dar in a case of civilian killing and issued a non-bailable warrant against him for killing two non-local labourers in Kulgam in 2021.
