‘Crorepati’ Forest Guard sent to 7-day police remand

JAMMU: Special Judge Anticorruption Jammu Sanjeev Gupta on Tuesday granted seven days police remand of Kewal Sharma a ‘Crorepati’ Forest Guard who amassed huge property during his posting as Additional PRO to Ex-Deputy CM.
Accused Kewal Sharma, son of Gian Chand Sharma, resident of Kachrial, Tehsil Khour, at present Patta Paloura, near Petrol Pump, Jammu was produced in custody by Dy.SP H.L Dhar of Vigilance Organisation Jammu (VOJ) for seeking remand in case FIR No. 32/2015 of VOJ for the offence under Section 5(1) (e) read with 5(2) of P.C. Act 2006. It has been submitted in the remand application that accused had amassed property worth crores of rupees in the shape of residential houses in and outside the State besides commercial and luxury vehicles which are disproportionate to his income.
It is further alleged that accused has also managed to
open bank accounts on fake documents and deposited crores of rupees in those fake accounts and the
money has been utilised for raising assets.
It was also alleged that the accused is not cooperating in carrying out investigation therefore to unearth the facts the custodial interrogation of the accused is required.
The Special Judge Anticorruption Jammu after going through the remand application as well as the CD file, observed that keeping in view the fact that accused is a Forest Guard who has allegedly raised huge assets disproportionate to his income, the plea of the Investigation Officer (IO) for police remand of the accused is accepted and accused is remanded to police custody for a period of seven days with the direction that accused shall be medically examined after every 24 hours. In case any medical assistance is required by the accused same shall be provided to him from the concerned doctor/s.
