REASI: Though they may lack the familiar red sirens and matching uniforms, the public health workers and government employees are essential to emergency response, and in turn, their level of preparedness training — both personal and professional — can greatly affect the people they protect, District Development Commissioner Reasi-Shabir Ahmad Bhatt, said while addressing the participants on the inauguration function of Training on Disaster Management.
The two-day training programme with a focus on protecting the public’s health during disasters was organised by the ‘Doctors for You’ NGO in collaboration with National Rural Health Mission for the health workers including block ASHA coordinators and facilitators.
In the training programme the participants were given preparedness tips as well as ways to overcome barriers that could prevent workers from performing at full capacity or impede their ability to work at all.
DDC expressed his optimism that the public health workers could play a vibrant role in disaster management, adding that district administration is ready to provide every possible assistance in this regard.
Dr Anurag Mishra from NGO in his welcome address gave a detailed account of the activities that would be undertaken during the two day conference and through power point presentation showed various aspects of the disaster management and mitigation system. Throughout the workshop participants will be fully engaged in the process and discover new ways in which the disaster risk management process can be beneficial to them as individuals, their families, friends and others they serve added CMO Reasi, Dr Parminder Singh.
