Woman jumps to death, girl attempts suicide

BHADARWAH: A 25 year old woman committed suicide on Tuesday evening reportedly by jumping off the Khareeri Hill located in Marmat area of Doda.
According to reports, Pinky Devi wife of Sanjay Kumar, a housewife resident of village Roat Fantyana Magh in Marmat Tehsil of District Doda near Khareeri Hill regularly visited the area with her cattle situated on the hill top.
According to the family sources and police, Pinky left her house at 6.00 PM on Tuesday after some altercation with family.
Reports from the spot and according the statement of a couple the eyewitness suggest that at 7:00 PM she was seen sitting on top of the Khareeri waterfall and within minutes she jumped off the cliff to the Nallah, which is at a height of 400 feet.
After receiving the news of the lady jumping from the cliff, locals rushed to the spot and informed the police.
When contacted Incharge Police Post Goha, SI Firdous Ahmed said that we retrieved the body at 8: 30 PM and sent it to Primary Health Center Goha for postmortem, we are in process of collecting the evidence about the actual cause of death.
“As of now, we have started inquest proceedings under section 174 CrPC. The body is still lying at PHC Goha, a team of doctors from Doda is about to reach here to perform the postmortem. We will handover the body of the deceased to the family members by evening,” SI added.
Meanwhile, A young girl identified as Shamim Akhtar daughter of Mukhtiar Ahmed resident of village Kanoiyan, Poonch consumed some poisonous substance at her residence and became unconscious.
Her parents immediately shifted her to District Hospital Poonch. Since her condition was serious, she was evacuated to Government Medical College Hospital Jammu after giving first aid. The circumstances under which she took this extreme step could not be ascertgained. The Poonch Police have registered the case for investigation.
