SVC recommends to install CCTVs in J&K police stations

Jammu: With the aim to strengthen internal vigilance in Police department, State Vigilance Commission (SVC) on Tuesday recommended installation of CCTVs in all police stations and vital traffic check points in Jammu and Kashmir.
A ‘Complaint Monitoring Mechanism’ has been upgraded in the Home department and regular meetings are conducted to ensure redressal, besides, installing of CCTVs in all Jails and issuance of online gun licence, a SVC Spokesperson said.
The Commission also recommended dispensing with policemen’s visits to individuals for various verification, he said.
The recommendations were made by the SVC in a meeting presided over by Chief Vigilance Commissioner Kuldeep Khoda to assess the progress of corruption complaints and enquiries pending with the Home department, he said.
SVC asked officers of the Department to ensure time-bound disposal of pending complaints, enquiries, besides, directives were issued to bring transparency and efficiency in the working of its wings dealing with public issues.
The Home Department Special Secretary said out of 567 complaints, 375 have been disposed of, action taken report submitted in 37, status report for 12 has been given and remaining are under probe.
The Commission directed that all pending enquires, complaints be finalised on merit before the next review fixed on May 11, the spokesperson said.
