JAMMU: Notwithstanding attempts of burglary in State Bank of India ATM at Chrar-e-Sharief in the Kashmir Valley early this month, the management has intriguingly left the facility across the State unguarded. Well guarded banking in a sensitive state like Jammu and Kashmir is seen as imperative for protection of clientele and safety of the public money.
The burglars had made an abortive bid to loot the ATM but failed. The local police station is investigating into the matter.
“We feel scared in entering the isolated ATMs, especially during night hours”, said a subscriber, adding that protection of the facility infuses sense of security among the accounts holders, who, at times, are required to make withdrawals even during odd hours.
State Bank of India is reportedly second bank with its largest network, after the Jammu and Kashmir Bank, in the State. The mandatory security requirements assume immense significance, especially for the consumer satisfaction.
Another client expressed surprise over leaving the bank ATMs unguarded, saying it may perhaps be okay during day times but in the evenings, especially in isolated areas, it is too risky.
A client, Ghulam Mohammed rued that at times ATMs remain virtually locked for the sole reason of lack of security.
