Over Rs 3 lakh collected from traffic violators

KATHUA: A team of officers led by Regional Transport Officer, Kathua, Amarjeet Singh, charged Rs 3.44, lakh fine from transporters for various offences under the provisions of Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.
The team conducted extensive checking at Lakhanpur and Chadwal on National Highway last night and compounded 142 vehicles on the spot and challaned 13 vehicles for overloading, violation of route permit conditions, fitness, pollution norms, dangerous driving and other offences.
The other members of the team were Motor Vehicle Inspectors Kamal Kumar, Rajiv Kundal and Vinod Chalotra along with MVTA. The officers also started off loading the excess weight from overloaded vehicles in compliance to the directions of the Supreme Court. The officers on duty further urged the transport operator to operate their vehicles on road with proper and valid documents.
