JAMMU: Police on Friday foiled the ‘Deputy Chief Minister residence Gherao’ programme of daily wagers here by resorting to Lathicharge on them.
A large number of protestors led by Tanveer Hussain (PHE), Akhil Sharma (PDD), Puneet Sharma (Health), Rajan Sharma (Agriculture), Shallo Ram (Forest), Sikander Singh (Tourism Department), Anurag Sharma (Swachh Jammu Mission Sangarsh Committee) and Kamla Sharma (Home Guard) assembled at Exhibition Ground near Press Club and raised slogans against the administration and government.
Later they took out a march towards Circuit House to Gherao Deputy Chief Minister, to press for their demand of framing a policy for regularisation of their services and release of pending wages, which was foiled by police soon after it started from Press Club Jammu.
Few protesters were injured as police used mild Lathi charge to stop them from marching towards Circuit House.
Union members appealed to the government and concerned departments to accept all demands of the workers as early as possible otherwise be ready to face fast unto death agitation in future.
“We have been working in the departments for the last two decades, but we have not been regularised till now. The rally is our warning to the government that we are determined to start a statewide agitation if justice is denied to us,” the warned.
