Police, BSF should remain vigilant against terrorist threats: DGP

R S PURA: Expressing concern over increasing infiltration bids and lurking possibility of ultras sneaking in, Director General of Police (DGP) J&K, K. Rajendra Kumar stressed upon the Police/BSF officers to remain extremely vigilant both at the borders as well as in the hinterland to foil the designs of the terrorists to disturb peace and tranquility in Jammu Zone and to launch cordon and search operations in areas adjoining the border to clear the area of any suspected movement apart from strengthening the intelligence network to generate actionable inputs to neutralise the terrorist threats.
He was interacting with the officers of police and BSF during a visit to areas affected by the ongoing firing/shelling at different BOPs on International Border (IB) in R.S. Pura Sector including Jhoura Farm, Chakroi and Jugnu Chak.
Inspector General of Police, Jammu Zone Danesh Rana and Inspector General of Police BSF D.K Uppaday along with other senior police officers including SP headquarters Ramesh Kotwal and SDPO Surinder Choudhary accompanied the DGP during his visit.
He also conducted a detailed visit to the most affected border villages falling under the jurisdiction of Abdullian and Shamka Panchayats where heavy firing from across the border is going on due to which some villagers have been affected and were evacuated to safer places at ITI College R.S. Pura and City Middle School R.S. Pura.
DGP felicitated BSF jawans and found their morale high. The BSF and other officers who were present on spot briefed the DGP about the current border situation. After making an assessment of the situation, the DGP briefed the Police/BSF personnel to synergise their efforts and fully ensure the safety and security of the local population. He also applauded the valour of BSF jawans for giving a befitting reply to unprovoked firing and shelling by Pakistan.
Later, the DGP J&K visited camps of border villages at ITI College R.S. Pura and City Middle School R.S. Pura and took stock of the measures for the safety and security of these people. He also inspected the lodgment centre and community kitchen being run in these camps.
He also issued directions to SDM for the welfare of people living in these camps.
