PG cagers face GCW Parade to defend title
JAMMU: The combined side of Post Graduate (PG) Departments shall take on the same opponent they defeated last year, the Government College for Women (GCW) Parade, to defend the inter-college women’s basketball title here on Wednesday.
Earlier, in the semifinal, played on Tuesday, the PG Departments outplayed GCW Gandhi Nagar 23-08 making it a one-sided contest at MA Stadium, here.
On the other hand, the GCW Parade had already qualified for the finals getting walkovers in the preliminary rounds. In all, seven colleges had confirmed their participation in this event.
KABADDI: Meanwhile, in another women’s team event of kabaddi, underway at JU Grounds, Government College for Women (GCW) Udhampur, GCW Gandhi Nagar and GCW Parade won their respective matches to move into the advanced stages of the competition.
The Results: GCW Udhampur beat Government Degree College (GDC) Kathua by three points; GCW Gandhi Nagar defeated GDC Akhnoor by 20 points; GCW Parade trounced GDC Kathua by 15 points; PG Departments got walkover GDC Samba.
VOLLEYBALL: On the second day of the inter-college men’s volleyball tournament, being organised on the campus grounds, the GDC Paloura, GDC Rajouri, GGM Science College and GDC Poonch reached the second round of pre-quarterfinals.
In the only match decided on the ground, GDC Paloura trounced GDC Khilotian in district Rajouri in straight sets of 25-21, 25-16. In other matches, GDC Rajouri, GGM Science College and GDC Poonch got walkovers. In all, six matches were scheduled for the second day of the competition today.
Matches were officiated by the technical penal comprising Amit Sharma, Sangita Bhatt, Parableen Kour and Priya Charak.
