JAMMU: Asking that the proposed visit of All Party Delegation though timely and appreciable, Senior CPI (M) leader and MLA, M.Y Tarigami urged the government to facilitate its interaction with all staskeholders.
It will prove to be more useful if separatist leadership is also approached, he said adding that for making the visit result-oriented, the All Party Delegation must also meet the Bar Asso-ciation, traders representatives, Kashmir University Tea-chers Association, intellectuals and other civil society groups to seek suggestions for solution of this vexed problem. “The visit should not be reduced to a cosmetic exercise and prove to be a patch work as in the past and ignoring the recommendations of the working groups and interlocutors put forth before has only further deepened the mistrust among the people and strengthened their alienation,” he said while talking to reporters, here on Thursday. The real challenge is the anger among the new generation which greatly feels disillusioned and disappointed, he said and added that only a sincere and purposeful initiative can create some hope among them.
“If there are no serious and sustained efforts made to win the trust of the people the crisis would get further complicated and trust deficit deepened,” he said adding that meaningful and sustainable dialogue demands non-imposition of conditions from either side.
Concrete steps are required to be taken for re-building the shattered confidence of the people and the hiccups in the earlier CBMs must be removed, he said.
Revocation of AFSPA and enquiring into the unfortunate recent killings of civilians by a retired Supreme Court judge, rehabilitation of the families of the deceased and injured will be a positive step in that direction.
India and Pakistan cannot afford to continue with confrontations and hostilities and democratic opinion must urge upon the respective governments to restart a credible process of dialogue to sort out the issues which have remained unresolved, he said and added that settlement of Kashmir issue has to be given top priority.
