NPP protests seeking renaming of KAS, KPS as JKAS, JKPS

STATE TIMES NEWS
JAMMU: For the sake of restoration of the identity of Dogra land which has been facing crisis since decades, hundreds of Panthers Party activists spearheaded by Harsh Dev Singh, Chairman JKNP and Yash Paul Kundal State President Young Panthers staged a massive protest at Exhibition Ground on Tuesday seeking insertion of Jammu region’s name in the abbreviations of various Administrative Services of the State besides equitable promotional opportunities for the Jammu based Administrative officers.
While addressing the media, Harsh strongly condemned the successive State governments for terming the Administrative Services of J and K as KAS, KPS and KCS in official records and sought the rectification of anomalous situation by duly incorporating Jammu region’s name in the abbreviations for the said services.
He exhorted the present State Government to rename the said Administrative Services as JKAS, JKPS and JKCS respectively so as to address the sentiments of various aspiring groups and regions.
He regretted that the aforesaid services continued to omit the name of Jammu region from their nomenclature by mentioning the same as KAS, KPS and KCS in official records thus hurting the self esteem and pride of Jammu region. He said that the name of the State being J and K, it was highly preposterous to disregard the identity of Jammu region by omitting to make its mention in the highest level administrative services of the state.
Lambasting the BJP for remaining mute over the scope of discrimination extending over the Jammu based KAS officers, Harsh regretted that hardly two KAS officers of Jammu region had been posted as Deputy Commissioners as against 10 Kashmir based KAS officers posted as DCs in 10 different districts in addition a Kashmir based KAS officer having been posted as Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir besides not a single Jammu based minority community KAS officer had been given such posting despite the BJP’s persistent loud drum beating to claim itself as messiah of the Dogras.
Lampooning the feeble acumen of BJP Ministers in the recent Cabinet meet, Singh said that the opposition of BJP to the proposal of making KPS officers (JKPS) at par with KAS (JKAS) officers was derisory and ludicrous.
He said that the BJP Ministers failed to understand that there was nothing in the proposal that a police officer would be given rank of DIG or IGP and regretted that half baked BJP Ministers created a ruckus in the Cabinet without understating that it was merely grade enhancement for non-uniform, non-descript posts which was listed in the agenda items before the cabinet. Harsh further castigated the BJP Ministers for their failure to agitate the real issue of KPS (JKPS) officers in the cabinet regarding their stagnation for the last eight years. He said that despite the vacancies of at least 50 posts of IPS for induction from the quota of KPS (JKPS), no action had been taken for the last eight years to induct such local officers. Rebuking the BJP Ministers for their little knowledge and lack of home work, he said that they opposed the cabinet move without realizing that more than 70 per cent KPS officers belonged to Jammu region. He further expressed concern over 75 KPS officers working as SPs for the last 11 years without further promotions. He reminisced that the BJP would create ruckus and stifle the House proceedings over such issues but regretted that the BJP had despicably turned fragile before its alliance partner and exposed its treacherous character. Among those who spoke on the occasion included Rajesh Padgotra, Nirmal Kishore, Udhayveer, Purshotam Parihar, Satvir, Kailash Mohan, Raj Kumar and Ravinder Jamwal.
