New Delhi: Jammu and Kashmir Governor N N Vohra, a UPA government appointee, is unlikely to be removed in the immediate future, a top government functionary said on Wednesday.
“There is no plan to remove the Governor of Jammu and Kashmir,” he said, scotching rumours in this regard.
Vohra, a former Union Home Secretary, was appointed as JK Governor in 2008 by then Manmohan Singh government.
He was given a second term in 2013.
There have been speculation that Vohra may be replaced soon as unrest in Kashmir Valley has been continuing ever since the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist Burhan Wani on July 8.
A number of names, including that of a former Union Home Secretary and a retired army General, were doing the rounds as the possible successor of Vohra, who was the first civilian Governor of the troubled state in 18 years
