JAMMU: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday lashed out at the National Conference (NC) for its double standards, saying the party has been brazenly exposed in the state after it skipped the All-Party Meeting called by Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti to discuss security situation and restore normalcy in Kashmir Valley.
The state unit of BJP is of the view that by boycotting the crucial meeting, it was clear that the National Conference was least concerned about the peace and normalcy in the region. It believes that the people are keenly observing these developments and they will teach them (National Conference) a lesson in near future.
Terming the reasons put forth for the boycott by NC as fabricated and meaningless, BJP State General Secretary Harinder Gupta said that had the National Conference been sincere in contributing in restoration of normalcy and peace in the state, it would have attended the meeting without any excuse.
Harinder Gupta said that the National Conference, which is the largest opposition party in the state, has failed to prove its commitment towards coming forward and sit with the government to discuss the situation and suggest ways and means which could prove to be effective in sailing the valley out of the current turmoil.
He said that the NC leadership, before taking a decision to boycott the All-Party Meet, must have kept in mind that the annual Amarnath Yatra is being performed these days and every stakeholder should contribute for immediate restoration of peace and normalcy so that the pilgrims return to their native places safely from the State.
Gupta said that the meeting was called by the Chief Minister to discuss and seek suggestions to control the situation but boycotting the same by NC has cast a doubt about its role in the present turmoil.
“The NC leader and former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah met the Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and also the State Governor on the present situation but he did not bother to attend the All Party Meet, which was an appropriate platform to express views and help the government in taking a unanimous decision to tackle the situation”, he said.
Harinder Gupta said it was clear in the given circumstances that the NC was enacting a drama and wants to remain in good books of the separatists and the elements who are further exploiting the situation rather than playing constructive politics in the current turmoil.
