Cong for special session of Assembly on prevailing situation

SRINAGAR: Congress on Thursday demanded special session of Assembly to discuss the prevailing situation in the State.
The demand was raised during the All-Party Meet convened by the Chief Minister to discuss threadbare the current situation in the Valley and its impact on the State.
After the conclusion of All-Party Meet, JKPCC Chief G.A. Mir who led the Congress team at the meeting said that apart from discussing the prevailing grim situation, a broader discussion on the issue addressing the Kashmir Problem was also held.
In this direction he stated that initiatives of UPA under Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh came under discussion, thereby, different working groups were constituted, who have submitted their recommendation on various aspects of the problem including recommendations of Justice Sagheer Committee.
The meeting felt that in furtherance of these initiatives the recommendations of the working group need to be examined thoroughly to explore the possibility of way forward towards addressing Kashmir issue.
The team comprising CLP Leader Nawang Rigzin Jora, senior Vice President Sham Lal Sharma, MLC and Vice President Gulam Nabi Monga while debating the current unrest prevailing in the Valley expressed serious concern over the loss of precious lives and injuries to thousands, besides damages caused to property.
The Party extended support to Government for restoration of peace and urged that killings must stop first, besides use of excessive force on protestors must also stop.
PCC Chief stated there were many factors responsible for the outburst that led to volatile situation in the Valley.
The important suggestions made by the Party in All-Party meeting include holding of sustained dialogue with all stake holders in the State, adequate compensation must be provided to families who lost their dear ones and to those who received grave injuries, time bound probe into the killings and personnel found guilty be brought to book, calling of special session of the assembly to discuss the situation and constitution of monitoring committees at district level involving all political and religious leaders, headed by DC to reach out to the people.
The Party said that it is appropriate time to discuss the main issues concerning the State in all regions, as that will also help in restoring confidence of the people in the democratic process.
The Congress Party urged that killings must be stopped, besides putting hold on the use of pellet guns and excessive use of force on protestors. SOP must be followed strictly as per the latest Supreme Court guide lines.
