LMD imposes Rs 30, 300 as fine

SAMBA: A team of Legal Metrology Department (LMD) comprising Assistant Controller Ajay Verma and Inspector Narinder Makhnotra conducted inspection of various business establishments at Diani, Samba, Vijaypur, Bari Brahmana and adjoining areas and booked the defaulters.
The team inspected various business establishments including petrol pumps, general store, sweet shops, Karyana shops and provisional stores for their compliance with regard to different provisions of J and K Standard of Weights and Measures Enforcement Act 2011(Amended) and Packages Commodities Rules.
A penalty of Rs 30,300 was imposed on the erring traders for violation of the prescribed norms.
The department booked a Mumbai based company at Bari Brahmana for selling aluminum foil without mandatory declaration as required under Packages Commodities Rules and declaring misleading information on the packages. After going through the correspondence with the company representative and on the assurance of the company that it won’t repeat the same fault in future, the case was compounded by imposing the penalty of Rs 20,000.
The department has also warned the unscrupulous traders to desist away from using unfair trade and anti consumers practices.
