J&K Ex-Services League pays homage to Brig Rajinder Singh

JAMMU: J&K Ex-Services League celebrated Accession Day by paying homage to Brigadier Rajinder Singh, ‘The Saviour of Kashmir’ and recipient of first Gallantry Award of Independent India here on Wednesday.
On the occasion, homage was also paid to Brigadier Rajinder Singh’s comrades who had laid down their lives with him on Uri front while defending the State from 23rd to 27th October 1947. Besides, homage was also paid to 19 martyrs of 6 Bihar and 10 Dogra who were martyred on 18th September 2016 at Uri and also to all the martyrs who have laid down their lives in J&K during the period from 26th October 2015 to 26th October 2016.
Paying tributes to Brig Rajinder Singh and his gallant comrades who had saved the State in 1947, MLC Vikramaditya Singh recalled his supreme sacrifice for the future generations for emulation as he said even today the firing is going on, on the borders just 20 kms away from the city.
Vikramaditya said that he belonged to the family which created this State and ensured its solidarity for hundred years with the help of Generals like General Zorawar Singh, Baste Ram and General Baj Singh and finally Maharaja Hari Singh acceded to India with the help of Brig Rajinder Singh.
General Anup Singh Jamwal hailing from soldiers’ family of Gurah Salathian, who raised the Rising Star Corps and was the Adjutant General of the Army threw light on the Dogra Military Ethos, Dogra Culture and the sacrifices made by these gallant soldiers.
Gulchain Singh Charak, President Dogra Sadar Sabha and former Minister highlighted the contribution of Dogras in making the history and urged historians and the Government for recording it properly and including it in the School curriculum.
