JAMMU: IRP-17th Battalion is leading the medals tally by winning 20 medals so far in Inter Battalion Tournament-2016 of IRP/Armed Battalions of Jammu Zone (winter), the officials said. The tournament, which commenced on 9th of this month, would conclude later on 19th Nov 2016. According to officials, with 20 medals IRP-17th Bn won 15 gold, three silver, two bronze is leading while IRP-7th Bn with 15 medals, with eight gold, six silver, and one bronze, is at second position, whereas IRP-19th with 18 medals, six gold, 12 silver, is at third position. First two phases have concluded in which Athletics, Boxing, Wrestling, Weight Lifting, Judo, Basketball, Volleyball have been completed. More than 300 sports person both men and women participated in these events. Other two phases of the tournament would be conducted in the coming week during which events of Kabaddi, Handball, Tug of War, Hockey and final of Volleyball will be played. The officials said that there is a great enthusiasm among all the ranks to represent their unit teams in which Gazetted / Non Gazetted Officer along-with Jawans play for Battalion pride. They further added that a talent hunt is going to identify best players for Zonal and State championship games. In spite of heavy deployment, the Armed men manage time to keep the players fit for games and establish connection with men working in field round the clock through the regular sports activity.
