KUPWARA: The Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) of Army on Sunday defused an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) after recovering it from a bag at Gulgam area in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district earlier today.
Defence sources said that Army’s BDS this late afternoon defused an IED recovered from a bag. The IED was defused under the observation of special squad, they said.
They said that on the basis of information about some suspicious bag in the area of Gulgam, Kupwara, the teams from 41RR and 160 TA of Army, 68 Bn CRPF and JKP launched a joint search operation. While searching the area, a bag was found in panchayat Ghar, they said. “The area was immediately cordoned off and bomb disposal Squad of Army was called in to investigate and it was found out that the suspicious bag was containing IED”, defence sources told KNO
They said that the IED was taken to a safer place and was defused successfully by the Army. They further said that the immediate, timely and precise actions by the Army and Police averted nefarious designs of anti-national elements.
The timely action of joint forces will ensure a safe and secure atmosphere for the ongoing District Development Council (DDC) and By-Election in J&K and Kupwara as well, the defence sources said.
