JAMMU: In a meeting of Live and Let Live Society of India (LLLSI) held under leadership of its President, S S Komal on Sunday, the participants resented non-implementation of 30 per cent cut in fare of passenger vehicles, announced by the Government of Jammu & Kashmir Union Territory.
Speaking on the occasion, S S Komal said that though passengers’ demand regarding reduction in fare rates has been fulfilled by the Government, but the transporters are reluctant to reduce the fares in absence of a rate-list. “Government had earlier issued a random increase in fares because of lockdown and distancing method, but now when the Government has issued a proper order revoking hike in fares, its non-implementation on ground level is a matter of grave concern,” said Komal, adding that transporters have forgotten the distancing method and passenger vehicles can be seen overloaded, despite increase in patients of COVID-19 pandemic.
Komal appealed to the Transport Commissioner to issue a comprehensive fare rate list at the earliest to avoid high handedness of transporters and financial loss to passengers besides ending controversies erupting between passengers and transporters, while travelling.
Those present in the meeting included Romal Singh Chairman, Lekh Raj Sharma Vice President, Mohinder Singh General Secretary and others.
