JAMMU: The All J and K Home Guard Welfare Association on Wednesday organised a protest in support of their long-pending demands.
The protest was led by Kamla Sharma, President of the Association, who claimed that a meager amount of Rs 545 was being paid to Home Guards as monthly emoluments.
“It is sad that despite devotedly performing their duties Home Guards have been ignored and deprived of their rights,” Kamla said.
Sharma said that in compliance of Supreme Court directives Government of Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Delhi have extended all benefits to the Home Guards but it is unfortunate that the Home Guards of Jammu and Kashmir have been deprived and ignored by the government.
The association appealed to the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti to redress their genuine grievances and direct the State administration to implement the Supreme Court’s order and frame a policy to ensure job security and proper salaries to Home Guards as done by other states like Himachal Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh.
