KATHUA: The sleuths of Excise Department seized about 32 bottles of imported liquor at the entry point of the State being imported clandestinely.
According to reports, On 1st May, a Toyota Fortuner arrived at the Toll Post for clearance and on physical checking it was found illegally carrying 12 bottles of Glealivet Single Malt Scotch Whisky, 12 bottles of Bombay Sapphire Gin, four bottles of Merlot Red Wine and four bottles of Danzka Vodka. The vehicle alongwith the seized liquor and the driver have been handed over to the Excise and Taxation Officer, Excise Range Kathua for further action under the provision of J and K Excise Act.
Deputy Excise Commissioner Jammu has imposed a penalty of Rs. One lakh to the owner of Toyota Fortuner who had tried to clandestinely import liquor (imported super deluxe quality) into the J&K State through Lakhanpur Toll Post, which is serious offence.
Action of the Excise sleuths, regarding seizure of the Toyota Fortuner, posted at Lakhanpur Toll Post has been appreciated by the officers of the Department and the officers who detected the commission of offence shall be suitably rewarded.
It is pertinent to mention that entry of any type of liquor into State requires proper licence/permission from the Excise Department that was not obtained in the instant case.
Earlier, the staff of the Toll Post Lakhanpur detected 200 Kgs of polythene from a Toyota Innova car bearing registration no JK02AF-0872. The polythene was kept hidden beneath the seats of the car. The seized vehicle along with the polythene has been handed over to the Pollution Control Board for further action under the relevant law.
The Deputy Excise Commissioner lauded the efforts of the staff at the toll post in detecting banned items from private cars and exhorted them to work with more zeal and vigor.
