UDHAMPUR: Taking serious note of ongoing menace of encroachment in Udhampur City, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Udhampur Niraj Kumar on Saturday launched massive anti-encroachment drive against the infringers. Particular drive was initiated against those who have encroached upon Govt. land and footpaths illegally in the city. On the first day of drive Municipal Committee Udhampur (MCU) removed temporary structure and kiosks raised illegally on Govt land. According to reports, on the direction of DC Udhampur Niraj Kumar special team of 35 BRTF, local police and MCU led by CEO Santosh Kotwal complying the order partially demolished and removed dozens of temporary structure and kiosks raised illegally by people. It is pertinent to mention here that anti-encroachment drive was launched on the complaints registered by number of prominent citizens, local leaders and representatives of NGOs during meeting called by DC last week. Today coming heavily upon encroachers MCU removed, demolished illegal structures, kiosks and also seised building material dumped by dealers along with road side. Team commenced drive from Slathia Chowk to Domail Chowk at wee hours. MCU also removed dumped material of Kawari which invariably was giving bad look to city and creates chaos for pedestrians and vehicular moment on the Dhar Road. MCU warned there elements to desist from such activity otherwise legal action will be initiated against them in future. Talking to this correspondent DC Niraj Kumar said that today was first day of drive and right from Slathia Chowk to Domail Chowk it was conducted and drive will continue till its logical end. He said bad weather and unprecedented rainfall effected the drive a bit, however it will carryon to beautify and keep city neat and clean in the interest of public.
