Cultural Academy pays tributes to Sarwanand Kaul ‘Premi’

JAMMU: Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Cultural and Languages (JKAACL) paid tributes to the Sarwanand Kaul ‘Premi’, veteran freedom fighter, well known academician and noted Kashmiri poet, on his 28th death anniversary at a function held here.
Dr Arvinder Singh Amn, Additional Secretary (J) while welcoming the Guests said that the Academy has been organising a befitting literary meet programme on this towering personality of the State and will continue to do so in future.
Dr Rattan Talashi read out an exhaustive paper in Kashmiri, highlighting Premi’s contribution to the Kashmiri Language and Literature in particular. He said that Premi was truly a symbol of Kashmiriyat and Insaniyat.
Various cross-section of the society including poets, writers and intellectuals had gathered to pay their tributes to the late Premi and his son, who were martyred by the terrorists in 1990 in Kashmir.
Professor P.N Trisal in his paper shed light on his pioneering role during freedom struggle. Author of more than three dozen books Sarwanand Premi translated Tagore’s World famous Gitanjali and Ramayana into Kashmiri and Bhagvat Gita into Urdu.
Ravi Bhan and his party enthralled the audience by singing a couple of Bhajans and Ghazals of Premi.
Dr. Rattan Lal Shant who presided over the function threw light on life and teachings of late Premi who had a great contribution in the Kashmiri ethos and history by translating Bhagvat Gita and Ramayana and also recalled his memories.
Bal Krishan Shanyasi, J.K Koul Bezan and Ashok Gowhar read out their poetical tribute to Premi.
On this occasion, a set of books authored by Premi were presented to Upinder Ambardar, V.K Kashkari, Engineer Vinod Koul, Bimla Raina and R.K Bhat for their contribution to various fields.
As a mark of respect two minutes silence was observed and the speakers pledged to keep his message of peace friendship and religious tolerance going on.
Rajinder Premi, the son of Late Premi along with other family members was also present on the occasion.
Pran Pandita conducted the proceedings of the programme.
Vote of thanks was presented by Rajinder Premi, the eldest son of Premi.
