Cricket: Suryansh’s unbeaten 150 takes Commerce College into semifinals;Science College sails into final

JAMMU: The GGM Science College on Thursday sailed into the final of the ongoing inter-college cricket tournament, organised by the Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu, on the campus grounds, here.
In the semifinal, played today, Science College outplayed fighting Yogananda College of Engineering and Technology (YCET) by a margin of 32 runs.
Batting first, GGM set a target of 140 runs for seven wickets in allotted 20 overs. Vikram Singh remained top scorer with 35 runs while Mukul (25) and Manik (29) were other contributors to the total. For YCET, Usman took two wickets, followed by Sagar, Fazal, Harjeet Singh and Waqar, who took apiece each.
In reply, YCET could not face the calculated bowling from Science College and finished their innings for 107 runs losing nine
wickets.
Aaqib Nazir and Sachin were main scorers with 25 and 35 runs respectively while Majid and Harjinder added 13 runs each. Hitesh clinched two wickets while Ankush, Vikram and Sant Bakshi shared one wicket each.
Meanwhile, in another match played today, Government SPMR College of Commerce defeated Government Degree College (GDC) R S Pura by a huge margin of 89 runs to reach the semifinals.
Earlier, after winning the toss and decided to bat first, Commerce College set a challenging total of 198 runs losing three wickets in 20 overs game.
Suryansh hit brilliant century with unbeaten 150 runs coming off just 77 deliveries studded with 17 boundaries and six hits over the fence. Subrat and Avesh Sharma were scorers with 18 and 11 runs in their respective accounts. For GDC R S Pura, Banwarjit claimed three wickets and Sagar one.
Chasing a target of nearly 10-run per over, GDC R S Pura could make 109 runs for eight wickets. Sahil and Snehal were top scorers with 26 and 23 runs respectively while Janmeet added 17. From Commerce College, Ajay bowled brilliant spell taking a way four wickets for 10 runs while Sahil claimed two.
Today’s matches were officiated by the technical panel comprising Saleem ur Rehman, Raman Kumar, Mohan Lal, Vijay Kumar and Raj Kumar Bakshi as umpires while Vinod Kumar was scorer.
