Cong seeks judicial enquiry into NIT incident

JAMMU: Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) on Wednesday condemned the brutal lathi-charge on the students of NIT Srinagar which has left several students severely injured and demanded a time bound judicial enquiry into the incident of lathi-charge and to bring out the lapses in handling of the situation.
Speaking to media persons, Senior Vice President JKPCC, Sham Lal Sharma slammed the State Government for its utter failure in handling the situation especially the brutal use of force against the peaceful students. He expressed serious concern over the prevailing situation and the sense of insecurity amongst the students and parents which has further aggravated due to the uncalled for and unjustified use of force.
Sham Lal expressed full solidarity with the students and their parents and asked the government to diffuse the situation by taking the necessary measures including ordering a high level judicial enquiry to look into the incident and mishandling of the situation.
Congress leaders also condemned the statement of Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh describing the police action as mild use of force and termed the same as shameful and unfortunate, when the visuals of the police action shown on the media have established the excessive and brutal use of force. The party demanded an apology from the Deputy Chief Minister for his statement and demanded action against those responsible for the use of excessive force.
Former Minister and Vice President JKPCC, Raman Bhalla squarely blamed PDP-BJP Government for the utter failure, which has left every right thinking citizen shattered and dismayed over Government’s approach towards the sensitive matter, which involves career of hundreds of students. He lashed out at the attempts to polarize the situation and vitiate atmosphere in the premier educational institutions and accused the BJP of adopting double standards and selective actions for their political vested interests.
JKPCC Vice President G.M Saroori, Chief Spokesman Ravinder Sharma, Rajnish Sharma, Dr. Manohar Lal, Yogesh Sawhney, Shabir Khan, Vikram Malhotra, Manjit Singh, Manmohan Singh, Namrata Sharma, Ch. Shahnawaz, Anil Chopra, Pranav Shagotra (PYC) Neeraj Kundan (NSUI) and Neeraj Gupta were also present.
