Several injured in ceasefire violations to live with splinters

Jammu: Life will never be same for some of those injured in the cross-border firing as they will have to live with the splinters inside their bodies as it was not medically feasible to remove them, doctors say.
Over 60 injured admitted at the GMC&H Jammu have received splinter injuries in various parts of their bodies, the hospital officials said.
“It is not possible to remove all the splinters from the body of the people who were injured in the ceasefire violation,” said Dr Mohinder Singh a surgeon treating the victims of the cross border shelling at the Government Medical College and Hospital in Jammu.
He said that the procedure to remove these splinters would involve greater risk to the lives of these patients.
“The procedure to remove these splinters from the body of the injured involve greater risk to these patients, as the procedure can damage their nerves and blood vessels,” said Dr Singh.
The doctors say that the patient would feel the presence of the splinter inside their body throughout their lives, but these won’t cause any further harm to them.
“After sometime a mass of tissue engulfs these splinters, thus forming a cushion around it,” said the doctor.
The doctors say that only the splinters, which pose the ‘risk to life’ for the injured, are the ones that are removed. (PTI)
