JAMMU: The second day of the Amritkaal Lecture Series 2024, held under the theme “Dissolving Boundaries, Evolving Education,” was filled with enriching sessions and insightful discussions led by the eminent resource persons.
The day began with a comprehensive lecture by renowned nutrition therapist and author, Neelanjana Singh, who captivated the audience during the first session of the day, shedding light on the evolving paradigms of health and nutrition in today’s world.
Titled “Health Food and Beyond,” Singh’s lecture delved into the changing perceptions of health, emphasizing the transition towards preventive medicine in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. Drawing from real-life examples and contemporary trends, she navigated through topics such as intermittent fasting, artificial sweeteners, and the foundation of a healthy diet built on moderation, variety, and balance.
Singh also highlighted the crucial role of gut health in overall well-being, urging for mindful eating practices and lifestyle changes to support a healthy gut microbiome. Her comprehensive discourse concluded with an emphasis on the interconnection between sustainable eating habits and a sustainable environment.
The session was chaired by Prof. Samridhi Arora, Head, Department of Home Science, JU.
The second session began with an engaging session by Prof. Kavi Arya from IIT Mumbai on “AI and the Future of Work and Job Creation.”
Referring to the audience’s concerns through interactive polls, Prof. Arya navigated through the evolving landscape of employment in the age of automation and artificial intelligence. He discussed the challenges and opportunities presented by AI, emphasizing the need for continuous learning, critical thinking, and entrepreneurial spirit to navigate the changing job market.
Prof. Arya also emphasized on the transformative potential of AI in various sectors, including education, tourism, and agriculture, while highlighting the role of initiatives like e-Yantra in fostering robotics education and innovation.
Prof. K. S. Charak, Professor, Department of Mathematics chaired this session.
The third session began with an insightful lecture on the importance of Multidisciplinary Education and possibilities of innovation: Perspective from Humanities and Social Sciences” in shaping the future of learning by Prof. Anand Prakash, formerly Dean International Relations DU.
Drawing from his experience in pioneering the Design Your Degree program, Prof. Prakash underscored the need to cater to the diverse learning preferences of today’s generation. He emphasized the value of interdisciplinary approaches in gaining a holistic understanding of complex subjects, advocating for collaboration and dialogue across disciplines.
Prof. Prakash’s engaging discourse concluded with a call to embrace transdisciplinary thinking and dissolve the boundaries that limit intellectual exploration.
This session was chaired by Prof. Vishav Raksha, Head Department of Sociology, University of Jammu.
Prof. RK Singh, Formerly Head & Dean, Department of Commerce, Delhi School of Economics, concluded the day’s lectures with a thought-provoking discussion on “The Challenges and Prospects of Dissolving Boundaries of Subjects: A reference to Business Education”.
Reflecting on the evolution of educational paradigms, Prof. Singh highlighted the importance of transcending disciplinary boundaries to address the complexities of the modern world. Drawing parallels from ancient wisdom and contemporary theories, he emphasized the role of educators in encouraging a transdisciplinary approach to learning.
Prof. Singh called upon to rethink traditional teaching methodologies and embrace a facilitative role in dissolving boundaries for holistic learning experiences.
Prof. Neelu Rohmetra, Dean Research Studies, University of Jammu chaired the session.
Prof. Umesh Rai, Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu and Prof. Dinesh Singh, Vice chairman, Higher Education Council, Government of JKUT remained present throughout the day , interacting with resource persons , which shows their commitment in Dissolving the disciplinary boundaries to evolve education in order to address the societal problems.
Prof. Prakash Chand Antahal, Dean Students Welfare gave the concluding remarks of the two-days lecture series.
