Greater Kailash Murder Case: Gola Shah’s close aide arrested from Punjab

`JAMMU : Acting swiftly on technical inputs, the Jammu Police on Saturday arrested another accused in Greater Kailash Murder Case. The accused identified as Varun Kumar alias Punjabi, a resident of Jalandhar, currently living in Samba, was on the spot when 39-year-old Avtar Singh was murdered.
Police said, the arrest of Varun Punjabi, close aide of Gola Shah, marks a significant achievement in FIR (39/24) registered at Police Station Gangyal over the murder of Avtar Singh on April 30, 2024.
Varun’s arrest is expected to give significant clues in the ongoing investigation of the case, police said.
On April 30, a 39-year-old man in Greater Kailash, was attacked in the presence of police over a land dispute. SSP Jammu, Dr Vinod Kumar, had immediately ordered the suspension of incharge Police Post (IC/PP) Greater Kailash PSI Puneet Sharma and attachment of SHO Inspector Harmonider Singh.
According to FIR, the deceased Avtar Singh son of Balbir Singh of Kaluchak was attacked by a group of goons when he objected to forcible possession of a plot he had allegedly purchased long back.
Earlier the police team had also conducted raid at Gola Shah’s residence at Greater Kailash.
Registry papers, land maps, revenue record found from the residence of Gola Shah are also being scrutinized. Names of senior officers, prominent citizens figure during investigation into the case of illegal land sales, sources said.
Here it is relevant to mention that the Court had granted 15 days Judicial remand of Ex-SSP Sheikh Mehmood IPS, Parshtom Singh alias Nikka, Suraj Singh son of Parshtom Singh, Sandeep Charak, Vikas Singh, Ravinder Kumar Gupta alias Gola Shah and Rajat Jandyal son of Ravinder Gupta. A case under sections 307/323 /447/147/IPC was registered against these accused at Gangyal police station.
