Govt withdraws 30 pc fare hike on public transport

JAMMU: The Government on Tuesday withdrawal 30 pc fare hike on public transport in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
“Sanction is hereby accorded to the withdrawal of 30 per cent fare hike on authorized fare, ordered vide Government order No: 31-JK(TR) of 2020 dated June 22, 2020, in view of restrictions imposed on seating capacity of Stage Carriage Passenger Vehicles due to COVID-19 Pandemic,” reads the order issued by Hirdesh Kumar, Commissioner/Secretary, Transport Department.
Consequently, it added, only the authorized fare (charged prior to the issuance of Government order No: 31-JK (TR) of 2020 dated: June 22, 2020) shall be charged from the passengers by the Operators of Stage Carriage Passenger Vehicles in the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir.
“Any violation of aforesaid order shall strictly be dealt with under the provisions of Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 and Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989.” the order further stated.
