CABINET TO MEET TODAY
JAMMU: The proposal of the Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha and former Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi to allot 5 Marla land at safer places to the border villagers may get approval in much awaited cabinet meeting, scheduled to be held at 4:00 PM tomorrow at Srinagar.
Ghulam Nabi Azad had written a letter to the Prime Minister Narendra Singh Modi asking him to allot at least 5 Marlas of land at safer places to border villagers, who live at high risks, as Pakistan Rangers keep on targeting Indian villages.
Azad has also sought payment of ex-gratia relief to the kin of those killed in Pakistani firing and terrorist violence, compensation for inability to cultivate the land beyond border fencing, special recruitment drive in army,paramilitary forces and the state police besides coverage of insurance schemes for life, property, crops, livestock, etc, declaration of 5-8 km belt of International Border as “Backward Area” for the purpose of reservation in education and employment in accordance with the norms of the State Government.
The Cabinet meet to be chaired by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has been called to give approval to the memo for the Central Government package for the flood hit people of J and K. The Cabinet will also review the relief measures undertaken by the government. Informed sources told STATE TIMES that the announcement of DA in favour of the State government employees and the much awaited adjustment of newly promoted six IGPs is likely to be made.
