60th National School Games: Badminton tournament from 21st November in Jammu

JAMMU: Directorate of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) shall be hosting the under-14 (boys and girls) badminton tournament, part of the 60th National School Games, to be held under the aegis of National School Games Federation of India (NSGFI) at twin venues of University of Jammu (JU) and Indoor Hall of DPL, here from 21st November.
This was disclosed by Director General, DYSS, Navin Agarwal while talking to media here this afternoon.
The five-day national event shall be declared open by Director General of J and K Police, K Rajendra Kumar, who has consented to be the Chief Guest, in a function at JU grounds.
“Around 190 shuttlers, including 146 girls, representing 30 teams in each group shall compete for the top honour. Elaborate arrangements have been made for the comfortable stay of visiting players and officials accompanying them,” said the Director General.
To raise competitive teams from the host state, the DYSS had organised a fortnight long coaching camp.
“We expect an improved performance from both boys and girls teams of the state this time. Earlier, these teams were selected on the basis of performance in the domestic competitions,” disclosed Agarwal, who is also Organising Secretary of the Tournament.
Since, the participating teams have started reporting to the organisers today only, the fixtures and draws with regard to the competition expected to be finalised by the technical committee deputed by the NSGFI by Thursday.
The participating teams are from states and institutions including Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Vidya Bharathi, Assam, Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Haryana, Gujrat, Manipur, Kerala, Jammu and Kashmir, Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, JNVS, Telangana, Uttarakhand and West Bengal.
The DG was accompanied by Deputy Directors, Kanchan Bala and Haji Mirza and A.R Shigan as also other senior officers.
