AK-47 snatching case Main accused Aamir surrenders

JAMMU: Jammu police got a sigh of relief on late Tuesday evening when main accused in weapon snatching incident, Aamir Hussain surrendered in the office of the SSP Shopian along with snatched AK-47 assault rifle.
The main accused Aamir Hussain, son of Ghulam Mohammad Bhat, resident of Hallpora, Ratnipora, Shopian managed to flee from the Mandir Masjid point along with AK-47 assault rifle and 30 rounds on 25th March 2017.
His accomplice Shahid Ahmad, son of Abdul Rashid Najar, a resident of Memender, Shopian was nabbed by the police from Ban Toll Plaza at Nagrota on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway on 26th March, when he was fleeing from Jammu in a Tavera Taxi to Kashmir. Same day, another  accused Mohammad Asif, son of Mohammad Ali Shah, resident of Shopian was arrested by the cops from Shopian on a tip off given by Jammu Police to their counterparts in Shopian.
Masrool Ahmed, son of Abdul Rashid, resident of Ratnipora, Shopian was nabbed from the spot by the locals. Two motor-cycles (JK 13B-6442) and (JK02AH 7273) were also seized from the spot.
Police said three accused had reached Jammu on 20th March 2017 and stayed at Bathindi. “The trio reached Jammu with the planning of weapon snatching. Asif, who was captured from Shopian, was also part of the gang but hadn’t come to Jammu. Aamir had conducted recce about movement of police constables in the months of December and January when he was staying at Bathindi,” sources said, adding Shahid in police custody has disclosed that they picked up the spot of Tawi bridge as they had generally seen the constables moving towards Police Lines on foot.
On 25th March, high alert was sounded in Jammu after a PSO of ?Chairman, Anjumana Minhaj-e-Rasool Maulana Dehlavi was attacked by group of Kashmiri youth and they fled away with his official AK-47 weapon.
The accused executed the task when they found police constable Mohammad Hanief moving along at the start of Tawi bridge. They hit him with a bat and sprinkled Chilli powder in his eyes.
Masrool was nabbed on spot while Aamir Hussain and Shahid fled from the spot. Aamir managed to flee with the weapon while Shahid was arrested from Ban Toll Plaza.
The trio had attacked Selection Grade Constable Mohammad Hanief, 50, son of Mohammad Subhan Sheikh, resident of Banihal, Batch No. 355, posted with Jammu and Kashmir Armed Police.
Sources said that Aamir is being shifted to Jammu after obtaining a transit warrant.
