Workshop on child protection in schools held

JAMMU: A workshop on prevention of abuse, bullying and other child protection issues was held at Jammu University in which around 100 stakeholders including chief education officers, principals and students of both the government and private schools, nodal officers on child protection in School Education Department and representatives of NGOs participated.
The workshop was organized by J and K Alliance for Child Rights with support from National Development Found-ation and UNICEF with technical support from Depar-tment of Education, University of Jammu in collaboration with School Education Depart-ment. Commissioner Secre-tary to Govt, Shaleen Kabra, was the Chief Guest on the occasion. State Project Director SSA/ RMSA, Saugat Biswas and Director School Education Jammu, Smita Sethi were also present. The technical experts in the workshop include Deepa Das Education Specialist UNICEF, Hilal Bhat Consu-ltant CP UNICEF, Sharif Bhat State Programme Manager Save the Children, Prof. Renu Nanda HoD Education Department University of Jammu, Advocate Sheikh Shakeel Member J and K Alliance for Child Rights and Rajiv Khajuria Chief Executive Officer National Development Foundation. Prof. Kajal Manhas and her team of students of scholars from Department of Education supported in group work. Shaleen Kabra said that children have right to environment free from abuse and neglect and safety of the children should be paramount concern that should guide all child protection efforts. He said that Constitution of India and J&K Constitution guarantees Right to Happy, Safe and Protected Childhood.
