JAMMU: The Department of Higher Education, J and K Government on Friday organised a State workshop on All India Survey on Higher Education (AISHE) for the nodal officers of affiliated colleges of the University of Jammu, polytechnics and nursing institutes in the Brig. Rajinder Singh Auditorium, University of Jammu.
The workshop was inaugurated by Sarita Chauhan, Commissioner Secretary, Higher Education, J and K Government.
Chauhan, in her inaugural address, dwelt in detail on the importance of ‘information’ in today’s age and emphasised that correct and accurate information is very important for policy making in higher education.
She stressed on timely submission of information under the AISHE and elaborated on how it can help us evaluative the standing of institutions in the academic map of the country. She further said that AISHE becomes important as the government has set a target of increasing the Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER) and in order to measure the efforts taken by the government to increase the GER, complete data on higher education such as the number of institutions, students and teachers.
The AISHE will also give an opportunity to the various stakeholders viz a viz students /parents etc. to make informed choices about various institutions. She urged all the institutions to ensure that all forms are filled-in as per the guidelines of AISHE within the stipulated time frame.
She also reiterated that this must not be a one-time exercise but must be a continuous process , so that the institutions can monitor their performance and take steps for improvement. She also talked about the other initiatives of the Government of India like the ranking system of the university, the first report will be available in March this year.
Chauhan said that if this information is not uploaded in the stipulated time frame, it can impinge upon the funding pattern of these institutions under various central schemes like RUSA and therefore asked the colleges to get the information uploaded on the portal before 30th January, 2016.
Prof. Poonam Dhawan, Dean Academic Affairs , in her address, also spoke on the importance of the data to be uploaded on the web portal of MHRD and said that the information of the respective colleges and the universities will go a long way for the policy makers to make informed policy decisions and research for development of higher education. She called for making collaborative efforts in order to bring the university and its colleges on the map of the institutions of excellence . Earlier, Tariq Ahmad, Director RUSA and State Nodal Officer AISHE gave a welcome address and also the details of the workshop.
Ginny Dogra, Dy. Director, Directorate of Internal Quality Assurance and Nodal Officer, University of Jammu conducted the proceedings of the workshop and also gave a detailed presentation on filling up of the Data Capture Format for the information of the participants. Soon after the presentation, the university facilitated the participants in uploading their formats online.
Prof. Angral, Nodal Principal, Government Colleges, Jammu presented the formal vote of thanks. Around 90 nodal officers from various institutions participated in the workshop.
