SAMBA: “Youth plays a pivotal role in nation building”, said DIG Jammu-Samba-Kathua Range, Ashkoor Wani while speaking during a function organised by District Rifle Association Samba at Bhargav Residency to felicitate the medal winners. Addressing the gathering that included retired army officers, advocates and social workers, DIG, Ashkoor Wani said that it pinches very much that our nation having population of 125 crores is lagging behind in medals in Olympics while a nation like America having population of about 35 crores is on winning spree.
He said the basic reason for this is poor infrastructure in sports. He emphasised that such type of competitions boost the morale of the players and are like talent hunt.
He further stressed that J and K Police have always remained supportive of such type of events through its Civic Action Programmes. He wished good luck to winners on the occasion and also distributed awards.
Earlier speaking on the occasion Advocate Subash Singh, President, Bar Association, Samba exhorted the youths for using their skills. He said shooting needs concentration of the mind thus increases mental power. The District, President of the Rifle Association, Anupam Singh said besides the poor infrastructure, his students got maximum medals in the shooting competition. He also thanked SSP Samba Joginder Singh for his sport in this regard.
Chairman Team Jammu and Secretary General Press Club of Jammu, Zorawar Singh Jamwal, while presenting vote of thanks congratulated the shooters in which most of them were girl students. He exhorted to the participants to be sports-addicted and academic-addicted than drug addicted which is forcing our younger generations towards a dead end. He highlighted that Veer-Bhoomi Samba has always remained at top in gallantry medals and other distinguished services and now the young students bringing laurels in sporting event is again a pointer to the fact that district Samba has no dearth of potential in different fields.
