Woman, paramour’s brother held for hacking husband, father-in-law; 4 still at large

DODA: A woman and her paramour’s brother were arrested on Tuesday within 24 hours for allegedly murdering her husband and father-in-law at Village Barri in Marmat area of District Doda, police said.
Mazdoor Union leader Sham Lal, 44, (who also contested Lok Sabha election) was killed along with his 80 year old father Sunito Ram in a cold blooded murder at their residence in Barri village of Tehsil Marmat, 30 Km from Doda town.
Initially, a missing report was lodged at Police Station Assar, but after preliminary investigation and questioning of Sham Lal’s wife Renu Devi (42) police suspected some foul play and simultaneously Renu was taken under custody.
“Within few hours of her arrest today, Renu admitted that she along with her lover Om Prakash and his four accomplices had killed the father-son duo on the intervening night of 23rd-24th with an axe,” said SHO Assar Farooq Ahmed Khateeb.
“Renu further revealed that after overpowering and then killing her husband and father-in-law, they packed the bodies in jute bags and took them to the backyard of her lover’s house and buried the bodies there,” Officer added.
After Renu’s confession, police took the accused to the spot and recovered the bodies 0.5 Km away from the scene of murder. Later the bodies were sent for autopsy by the police.
“We have lodged an FIR No 29/2016 and registered a case at Police Station Assar under section 302, 450, 201 RPC. As of now, we have managed to arrest two of the main accused Renu Devi and Des Raj resident of Barri, Marmat. We have launched a manhunt to arrest the remaining four accused,” SHO Assar said adding that we have sent the bodies to District Hospital Doda for autopsy, the postmortem report is yet to come.
The four accused who are evading arrest include Om Prakash son of Chuni Lal resident of Barri Marmat, Jagdish, Sanjay Kumar sons of Suram Chand resident of Seri Bhadarwah and Suram Chand.
According to reliable sources at Village Barri, Renu was having an affair with Om Prakash since long and for the redressal of the same complaint was lodged at Police Station Doda and in Village Panchayat as well.
The village Panchayat reportedly even fined Om Prakash few months ago for his illicit affair with Renu and also warned him to stay away from her.
