JAMMU: Department of Labour Jammu in collaboration with National Development Foundation and UNICEF with technical support from V.V Giri National Labour Institute, Government of India is organising two-day workshop on child labour with special focus on Child and Adolescent Labour (Prohibition and regulation) Act, 2016 here at Conference Hall TRC Residency Road Jammu.
The workshop was inaugurated by Dr. S.D Singh Jamwal, IG Police Jammu zone. Dy Labour Commissioner, Ankur Mahajan presented welcome address while the programme was conducted by Manmeet Bali. Dr. Helen R Sekar, Dr. Kingshuk Sarkar both from VVGNLI, Hilal Bhat from UNICEF and Rajiv Khajuria Founder Emeritus National Development Foundation Jammu also spoke in the inaugural session.
Dr Jamwal in his address complimented Labour Department National Development Foundation and UNICEF for holding deliberations and training multi stakeholders on provision of such important legislations. He offered full support of Police Department on such issues and asked National Development Foundation to plan more such programmes with active collaboration of Police Department. He assured that he will make special Juvenile Police Units at District level functional in Jammu division and asked police officers to aware civil society at District, Tehsil and Thana level on Child Rights and Provisions of CLPRA and JJ Act.
The IG Police stressed upon the need of joint efforts of police, civil society, Labour and Social Welfare Department to deal with issues of child protection especially child labour. The participants of the workshop include Assistant Labour Commissioners, Labour officers, officials from Education, Social Welfare Department, ICPS, police, advocates and civil society organizations.
