I made a digital payment of Rs 2,210 at a petrol station. I was thinking of a 0.5 per cent rebate announced by the government, but to my surprise, Rs 2,273 was debited from my account. Bank officials washed of their hands, saying that they had nothing to do with online banking. They were unsure of what type of charges these were. There is urgent need to abolish any such charges on digital transactions if the government is sincere about push people towards e-transactions. Otherwise, people will switch back to cash payments.
