Monsoon has its share of joy and sorrow if one goes by the number of states getting under flood waters followed with damages in terms of infrastructure and loss of crop, animal and human life. Every year states like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Assam, Odisha, Andhra  face the onslaught with lakhs uprooting from their hearths, acres and acres of crop getting damaged, thousands dead. The saga of devastation leaves every year a trail of human tragedy and this has been going on but never heard ever Centre asking these states to post the names of the missing or the rescued people. But on Tuesday, Centre has asked Jammu and Kashmir Government to post on its website the list of people rescued from different parts of the State. The move may look surprising but leaves a question mark why Union Government has chosen the e-way to get the information posted on the web from Jammu and Kashmir. Whereas other flood affected states have not been asked to do the same. Is it the magnitude of the calamity or the flow of funds to the state as part of relief package on which the Centre wants to keep a tap on the spending? The posting of the list surely is going to be a welcome step as the move will speed up dissemination of information to the dear and near ones. Union Home Secretary Anil Goswami said if the list of rescued people is made public, many families will heave sigh of relief on being assured that their loved ones are safe. Though water has receded at many places a major portion of the Kashmir Valley still remains under water with telecommunication, road links snapped and over six lakh people stranded at many areas. Even the relief and rescue operations are on, for army securing borders even during this hour of calamity is the crucial task as most of the bunkers are filled with water.  At some places the army positions very close to Pakistan border. But the stand-out concern for the soldiers is the damaged fence that runs along the border with PoK.
