SRINAGAR: In response to a communication from Governor N.N Vohra, the Central Ministry of Road Transport and Shipping has approved that the alignment of National Highway 1B (old) would now be along Chenani-Sudhmahadev-Goha-Khelani-Kishtwar-Sinthan Pass-Anantnag.
This important alternative road shall connect vast areas of erstwhile district Doda with the National Highway 1A.
Keeping in view the strategic importance, both militarily and otherwise, of the Batote-Doda Road (NH-244), the Governor in a letter of 3rd June, 2014 addressed to Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister of Road Transport and Shipping, had highlighted the vital requirement of linking a vast area and also pointing out that the existing road is affected by cracks and sinking phenomenon, making it vulnerable to recurring road accidents.
Nitin Gadkari, through a letter of 15th October 2014, informed the Governor about the acceptance of the new alignment by his Ministry.
