SRINAGAR: Congress on Tuesday described the current unrest an outcome of the utter failure of the PDP-BJP Coalition Government to contain the situation in the valley.
Expressing distress over the unabated incidents of killings and injuries, JKPCC Chief G.A. Mir said that Chief Minister being Head of the Unified Command must clarify her position on the killings and use of bullets and lethal weapons on the people agitating against the civilian killings.
He said there seems to be no end to the current unrest due to the mishandling of the situation by the State and Central Governments, as a result, the situation has turned out of control.
Mentioning that unabated killings and injuries are obviously detrimental to peace initiatives, PCC Chief emphasised on the need for creating a congenial atmosphere in which people could feel safe and secure. “The regular incidents of killings vitiate the atmosphere, as a result, the valley is on boil even on the 60th day of the unrest”, he mainatined.
Condemning the killing of a young boy by forces in Seer Hamdan in District Anantnag, Mir said the unabated killings and injuries to thousands of people was not allowing the situation to normalise, as the anger among the people is at the peak.
“Protests can be controlled by other means also but the use of bullets and pellets on the people would push back the peace initiatives that are being taken to put an end to the current unrest”, Mir said.
Responding to reports that forces at various places like Seer Hamdan in Anantnag, Rangreth in Srinagar and other areas barged into the houses, thrashed the common people, he said that it is very unfortunate and unacceptable.
Emphasizing the need to create a peaceful atmosphere, PCC Chief stated that forces should be directed to exercise restraint and avoid casualties in order to ensure a congenial atmosphere.
Reiterating his appeal to people especially youth to maintain calm and avoid confrontation with the forces, Mir urged them to give peace a chance claiming that everything can be settled through peaceful means and not by use of force or confrontation.
