JAMMU: Dalit communities of Bahu Fort area on Saturday under the banner of All J and K Dalit Chetna Manch held a protest demanding stern action against the culprits who publicly flogged Dalits in Una on 11th July.
Addressing a gathering, President of the Manch, Sham Lal Bason condemned the atrocities on Scheduled Castes throughout country especially in Gujarat State.
No doubt Union Home Minster condemned this incidence, he said and added that mere lip sympathy cannot serve the purpose.
As per National Crimes Records Bureau, he said, crimes against Dalit are rising throughout the country.
“A total of 33,655 cases were registered in 2012, 39,408 in 2013 and 47,064 cases in 2014,” he said adding that 85 per cent crimes against Dalits filed under the SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act were pending trial while 25 per cent were awaiting trial investigation across the country.
Condemning the derogatory statement of BJP Vice President of UP State, Daya Shanker against BSP Supremo Behan Mayawati, protesters appealed to Union Government to arrest him immediately.
They also appealed to Centre and State Government to extend SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act in the J and K State.
If such type of atrocities is not checked, they said, nationwide agitation will be started and it will be difficult for Government of India to control it.
