Udhampur Olympics-2017 concludes;Sports makes youth physically, mentally fit: DGP

UDHAMPUR: Director General of Police (DGP) J and K, Dr S.P Vaid laid stress on organising more and more sports events for the youth to make them physically and mentally fit besides channelising their energies towards constructive and productive activities rather than their inclination towards anti-social activities.
DGP was speaking as a Chief Guest in the closing ceremony of Udhampur Olympics-2017 organised by Udhampur Police under Civic Action Programme of Jammu and Kashmir Police, here on Wednesday.
DGP lauded the role of District Police and civil administration in organising this mega event for the youth of Udhampur area especially the girl children.
He also highlighted the various initiatives taken JKP in the promotion of the sports activities and asked the district authorities to continue such initiatives at school and college level so that these children may bring laurels to the State and nation.
DGP also announced cash reward of Rs. 50,000 for the participants of cultural event, especially Rs. 5,000 for Shwetima who preformed Indian Classical Dance Form (Kathak) on the occasion.
DGP also distributed medals/trophies to the winners in different events of Udhampur Olympics-2017.
Around 725 matches for more than 2,200 participants in 13 events i.e. table tennis, volleyball, badminton, handball, kho kho, kabbadi, cricket, tug of war and five athletics events with the efforts by about 70 officials of the Department of Youth Services and Sports and officials of Udhampur Municipality were held. About 800 participants/artists also participated in cultural programmes organised on opening and closing ceremony of the event.
While welcoming Chief Guest and other dignitaries, Dr. Shailendra Mishra, SSP Udhampur highlighted the importance of sports activities especially in the lives of the youngsters and said that the main objective of JKP in organising these events is to keep the youth engaged in constructive and productive purposes.
Others present were Rajesh Yadav, IGP, Director, Sher-I-Kashmir Police Academy Udhampur, Nissar Ahmed Shah, Deputy Inspector General of Police, UR/DKR Range, Neeraj Kumar,
Deputy Commissioner, Udhampur, officers of police, CPMF and army.
