Two HM terrorists acquitted

JAMMU: Principal Sessions Judge Kishtwar Bala Jyoti on Thursday acquitted two alleged terrorists of Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) on account of shoddy investigation and contradictions in the statements of prosecution witnesses.
According to police, on the basis of written complaint against the accused persons was lodged by Major S.P Singh, FIR No.74/2009 at Police Station Kishtwar on 30th June, 2009 for the commission of offences under Section 7/25 Arms Act. It was alleged that two terrorists, namely Javed Ahmed and Ghulam Haider, belonging to banned outfit HM have voluntarily surrendered before Army and Police at Pullar Bridge District Kishtwar on 20th May, 2009 at 5:30 AM along with illegal and prohibited weapons. It was further reported that above mentioned individuals were involved in terrorist activities in the area since long, hence they were questioned for their involvement in other cases. Moreover, the above said individuals were apprehensive of other active militants. Both the surrendered militants along with weapons were handed over to police for further necessary action under law.
Justice Bala Jyoti observed that the prosecution has miserably failed to prove charge against the accused persons beyond reasonable doubt. They are hereby acquitted of the charge. They shall be set at liberty forthwith if they are not required in any other offence/case. JNF
