Two held with 31 kg poppy straw

Jammu/SRINAGAR: Police on Saturday arrested two persons and recovered 31 kg poppy straw from their possession in two separate incidents.
According to a report, Satwari Police, acting on specific information, laid a Naka at Nikki Tawi Chatha and intercepted one tempo. During checking, police recovered three kilograms poppy straw from the possession of driver.
Police registered a case under relevant sections at Police Station Satwari.
The arrest was made by Inspector Manjeet Singh SHO P/S Satwari and under the supervision SDPO City South Rafiq Manhas and SP City South, Jammu Sandeep Choudhary.
In another case, a Naka was established at T-Chowk Banihal on the direction of SDPO Banihal Dheeraj Singh Katoch under the guidance of SSP Ramban MohanLal to check the vehicles. During Naka, police signaled a truck bearing (PB08CX 5702) which was on its way from Kashmir towards Jammu for checking but on seeing Naka party truck driver fled away from the spot leaving the truck abandoned while his accomplice was arrested. The accused was identified as Kuldeep Singh son of Gopi Ram resident of KapoorThala Punjab (conductor of the truck). During the checking of vehicle, 28 Kg of poppy straw was recovered from driver’s cabin. A case vide FIR No 18/2017 under section 8/15 NDPS Act was registered and investigation started. The whole operation was conducted by In-Charge Police Station Banihal SI Shamim Ahmed under close supervision of SDPO Banihal Dheeraj Singh Katoch.
