JAMMU: Asking that Turtuk area in Nubra Tehsil of district Leh librated to India during the Indo-Pak war of 1971 and honoured to be an integral part of India, All Balti Student Association Nubra Ladakh (ABSANL) President Ab Qadir, on Friday said, “We have always been neglected by the subsequent governments in the State and district as well and no development has been made.”
Talking to reporters here on Friday, Qadir said in order to ensure sustainable development of the area necessary funds may be allocated especially to Turtuk out of PMs Special Development Package.
“The Constitution of J and K envisaged that 24 seats of legislators in Legislative Assembly have been kept reserved for those in Pakistan occupied Kashmir (POK) (Gilgit Baltistan) and we have every legitimate right over at least one of those reserved seats as we have recently incarnated in our own country and State as well,” he said.
The government, he said, should come forward with concrete steps by announcing at least a seat of legislator to the recently librated Turtuk area from the seats reserved for PoK in the State Assembly for the development of the area.
He demanded inclusion of Thang, Tyakshi Groung, Tyakshi Pachathang, Turtuk Youl, Turtuk Farool, Garri, Choulungkha, Gunsathang, Bogdang and Changmar villages of Tehsil Nubra under the areas adjoining the Line of Control under Jammu and Kashmir Reservation Rules 2005 (ALC).
He also demanded construction of Turtuk-Hanu Road and opening of Degree College at Turtuk.
