Transporters warn 72-hr strike from Jan 23

JAMMU: Expressing resentment towards the callous attitude of Central and State Government, Chairman, All J and K Transport Welfare Association, Tarlochan Singh Wazir warned government to fulfill their demands otherwise all the transports of J and K will observe 72 hours complete strike from 23rd January, 2017.
“Central Government is increasing the rate of petroleum products day-by-day and the State Government too is increasing the rate of taxes/ fees/ penalty more than 100 per cent,” he told reporters.
“We are already not in a position to ply our vehicles as usual due to the militancy since 25 years, flood and unrest in Kashmir Valley, and government is increasing taxes/fees on the transporters,” he said.
“We have approached various times to the State Government for withdrawal of Passenger Welfare Fund, fixation of speed governor on all old prior 1st October, 2016 vehicles, amnesty scheme in Passenger Tax, special initiative for 25 years old vehicles, revision in passenger fare, withdrawal of increase in fees/taxes and penalty more than 100 per cent but nothing has been done till now,” he alleged. He demanded immediate revision in passenger fare and withdrawal of recent increased fees/taxes/penalty imposed by the State Government and smoothening of functioning in RTO Office.
“We are not interested to take an agitation path, but the Central/ State Government are enforcing us to take one,” he said. He warned government to fulfill their demands otherwise all the transports of J and K will observe 72 hours complete strike from 23rd January, 2017.
